This Sunday (28 April) is World Day for Safety and Health at Work. Singapore takes occupational safety and health very seriously. I have taken a personal interest in this matter, because it troubles me that our accident and fatal injury rates are higher than they could be. Every injury means pain and suffering for a worker, every death is a family distraught, bereft, and deprived of a breadwinner. It is our duty to reduce these to the absolute minimum, by instilling safety consciousness and safe work practices in workplaces.

Over the past decade, we have reduced the rate of fatal workplace injuries by more than half. We will continue to raise safety and health standards in our workplaces, to safeguard our workers’ well-being. I was happy to share our experience in my Message to the International Labour Organization (ILO) to commemorate World Day. – LHL

On this page I talk about the things I’m doing and thinking about, but I would also like to hear from you, about what we can do together for Singapore.
